A new year presents an opportunity for a fresh start.
It’s the perfect time to reflect on the year that was and define any goals that you might have for the next 12 months.
Research from psychologist Rich Walker found that people who engage in a variety of experiences are more likely to retain positive emotions and minimize negative ones. So at the start of 2015, with this in mind, I challenged myself to continue on the journey of trying to be my best self by opening myself up to new opportunities and new experiences – without feeling guilty about the time or money!
This open-mindedness lead to a six week introductory Portuguese course, a Mexican cooking class, a French bistro cooking class, a photography workshop, discovering Barre classes and cardio tennis. And when my brother announced he was staying in Canada for another ski season, I decided it was time to pay him a visit and learn how to snowboard!
So as well as having the usual resolutions and goals of eating better/drinking less/exercising more (or whatever yours might be!) - I challenge you to book that holiday and try that class you’ve always been dreaming about! You will thank yourself for those positive memories when faced with some of the inevitable challenges that life throws your way.
And remember: be yourself, but be your best self x
